Sportsbeat’s collaboration with Abbott World Marathon Majors grew out of our role as the retained OTT video production company for London Marathon Events.
First partnering with Abbott World Marathon Majors in 2016, we have now worked on three Virgin Money London Marathons and in 2018 the Berlin Marathon with them.
Working as part of their comms team, our crew are on the ground throughout race week, filming on location in and around the city to capture inspiring stories of athletes who have not only completed one epic, 26.2-mile challenge – but the six that make up the series, which includes London, Berlin, Tokyo, New York, Boston and Chicago.
Our role this year included capturing content at the event expo, filming and clipping the elite press conferences to push out on social media, GIFs using our travel green screen and helping to tell the wider story of the event through some of their key milestones.
On race day in both Berlin and London we had a four-man crew filming at the start and finish, capturing emotive footage of and interviews with the everyday runners that make each marathon special as well as interviews with the elite winners.
In a year that also took us to Switzerland to film with wheelchair racing stars Marcel Hug and Manuela Schar at their training base, Berlin was a fantastic conclusion to what has been an evolving and rewarding experience for our team.
